These Men

Those kind of women that are overly paranoid about men. The moment a man smiles at them, they suddenly entertain ideas in their heads that this man wants them. A man can't be nice to these women without them thinking "What does he want?". Why do these women behave this way? Feeling overly excited just because a man happens to glance at them! Some of us would say they are flighty, or seeking attention perhaps. But some of them are...

Three year old Sadie looks around for Greg, her cousin. Sadie, her baby brother, her mother and father are visiting her uncle's and she is enjoying a game of hide and seek with her two older cousins. Caleb is 14 years old and his younger brother Greg, is twelve.

Sadie feels closer to Greg. He pays her more attention, listens to her random chatter about dolls and when Michael her baby brother arrives, he is the only one who still seems to treat Sadie like the baby she's always been accustomed to being. The only time Greg upsets Sadie is during hide and seek because she can never find him and even at such a young age, she is already very competitive.

Sadie steps into the boys' room and she is sure she can hear breathing coming from the cupboard. Excited that she has finally found Greg for once, she creeps up to the cupboard steadily and opens it yelling, "I've found you!". Out comes Greg, sweating and panting. "Good girl Sadie! I thought you wouldn't. Come here".

He pulls her close to him, turns her onto the cupboard and kisses his three year old cousin with unbridled passion. As he crushes his lips onto Sadie's, his hands pinning her little body down, Sadie wonders what her cousin is doing to her. She is scared and his force hurts a little but she knows, loves and trusts Greg so she tries to stay calm and let him finish. While Greg sloppily kisses his cousin, his mother calls for him and just before she steps in the room, Greg lets go off Sadie and acts normal. "Here you kids are. Sadie, your mum and dad are leaving. Greg, come and say bye to Uncle and Auntie". "Okay mummy" Greg replies and bounds off after his mother.

That is the first time Sadie learns not to trust men as she thinks to herself "if what Greg was doing to me was alright, why did he stop so suddenly before Auntie came in the room?"

*To be continued*

Graduation Weekend

Four years and finally, graduation came. It was rather amazing. I'm too tired to go into detail like I normally would so for those of my readers that were expecting my usual way of telling a story, pele (that's sorry for my Non-Nigerian readers).

Anyways, I'll start from Friday. During our graduation rehearsals, our graduation tent was destroyed by a sandstorm and we all had to run out before it fell on us. Talk about your Friday the 13th spectacle. I try not to believe in that stuff but you must admit weird things or uncool things always manage to happen on Friday the 13th!

Friday was Grad party at this club in town. Bee came into town the day before so I had a girlie to go party with. The club was packed and everyone there was happy and relaxed and looked real nice too. The only spectacular thing to talk about concerning this party is the booze. It just kept coming! Vodka is not my friend but that night, I had to let loose so we got close and boy, did it loosen me up! I had way more fun than I expected to and I danced a lot. Colin got me two bottles of champagne and of course, poured it all over me before finally giving me a chance to drink em.
Bee and I had to x the party when we realized we couldn't stand straight anymore. LOL

P.S Don't judge me. Last time I really danced and enjoyed myself at a social function of that nature was sometime last year. Infact before Grad party night, I wasn't sure if I still 20 or now 45!

So Saturday was mostly terrible. When you drink vodka like it's water and continue with champagne, you are bound to get a hangover. If you are me anyway. And that is what Saturday was about for moi. I felt sick all day and had to sleep a whole lot before feeling a little human again.

My parents got in in the evening with my Auntie Sandie for the Awards Dinner for graduating seniors. I had planned to dress up but I ended up playing it down cause I lost the mood. All I wanted to do was eat the food and go back to my room to sleep. But my amazing family slowly got me in the mood to celebrate. Aunt Sandie didn't stop taking pictures and she got quite some amazing ones!

Mi familia
P.S Notice the picture of me on the table? That was pretty cool of AUN to frame pictures of each graduating senior.

Sunday, yesterday, was the main graduation day. It was long oh! But real nice. And I felt so much love and pride from my family and friends, both those with me and those who called or Facebooked me...it was amazing actually :) The ceremony was tasteful and even with our tent being ruined, AUN was able to still handle affairs and give us a really nice ceremony.

OMG I took pictures eh! Aunt Sandie's camera, my camera, other people's cameras, phones...I feel like I must have taken close to 500 pictures yesterday alone! I don't mind if I don't take another picture this year. LOL.

After all the pictures, we all went to get some rest and went out to the university club house for dinner. Yes, more pictures.

Rantings of a Summer School Newbie (Part 2)

Yes, I definitely won't enjoy summer school. What a dead dead idea.

I had my first biology class today. Teacher is cute and that is all. 10:00 to 11:50. I hate that my school does that. Might as well make it 10 to 12, let's know that the class is two hours. The cute teacher said tomorrow, we are going into a little bit of Chemistry aka he is going to call me out, open up my chest, bring out my heart and stab it repeatedly.

I HATE CHEMISTRY. See now, I took BIO 101 so as to not have to do Chemistry! So now, what is the point? What eh?

By the way, I have Biology EVERYDAY for 2 hours and Lab on Saturdays for 3 hours! So the only Biology free day for the next five weeks is Sunday. *speechless*

Internship was annoying today too. My boss made me attend the school Resume Writing Workshop and he expects a story on it tomorrow. Should be easy except that coming up with a story on something as uninteresting as resume writing is NOT easy.
Of course, let us not forget the countless things to type and mail. This job sucks. I should have gone to the radio station in town. Sure I would have more fun with that!

Moving dorms. Bless Jesus that I am not Mutallab or someone like that. I would have done some serious damage to Girls' Volpi dorm today. I get moved to a new room for summer, and when I get to the RA, she tells me I have to temporarily stay in another room cause she can't find the key to my actual room. Asin, is she kidding me? This happened just before I had to go to class so I didn't argue but when I got back and she still hadn't found the key, babes were pissed! Only to find out that there was actually someone in my room meaning I could still just go in and keep my stuff and get a key later.

But trouble again. The new roommate is quite the grinch who stole Christmas. I wonder if she is always that unpleasant or she just doesn't like me. Babe refused to let me move my things in on the grounds that I don't have a key and she wouldn't want to be leaving her key with me. After the BS day I had, I wasn't going to take more! I took her to the RA and insisted that she share her damned key till I get mine cause I must move into my room tonight.

Duh. I won. Moving rooms is HARD WORK though! Been moving things, unpacking and settling in since 7pm! And it's 9 now. I could have taken a break but when I get started, I don't like to stop till I finish and I am finished, thank God!

I'm going to pass out tonight. What a tiring day.

My cozy little corner :)

Rantings of a Summer School Newbie

I hate summer school. I have never done it and I never wanted to. I still don't want to. Unfortunately I have an internship and one more course to complete before I am fully wrapped up with college.

Yesterday, last year, is the day I went home. I am never in this school past May 10th. What for? When summer is calling? Lazing about, swims, shopping, being pampered (and ticked off) in the comfort of your house... I'll stop before I get emotional.

Summer school classes officially kick off tomorrow but I started internship today. Oh Holy Mary! Typing mails, sending them, going around looking for random things so I can type them, writing and sending in stories in limited time and having my supervisor still critic my story... all in Day One!

God help me. I hope I don't go nuts before summer school is over. Did I mention that the course I'm doing is a Biology class about Cell Inheritance WITH LAB?

Like I said, God help me!

What a Geek

Humans are never truly satisfied.

I got my grades today. After over 16 weeks of grueling work in 6 courses, I got 5 As (SUPER!) and a C+. That C+ is such a downer. Fine, it is a rather amazing result but that C+, ugh! I cannot stand it. 5 As and a B, I can take.

I have to get over it. 3.72 GPA, and the course that yielded the C+ is a stupid course. Nothing more to be done there really.

Bee said, "babe, you can like to cap. 5 As?! Haba!". Yes, I should think that way. I can't let that one C make me feel bad about all the hard work I put in this semester.

Still mehn, it hurts. Like someone poured yaji (pepper for suya. Suya is meat. Just flow with me) on a fresh wound.

Sigh, I am such a geek.

The End and the Beginning; the week of TERROR!!!

I missed blogging. I have just been way too busy this past week. No blogging, no Tumblr, no Facebook, nothing! It's been work work WORK! And so you don't think, "yeah yeah, what work could she have been doing?", I'm gonna list em out. And I am not exaggerating!

P.S Everything I'm listing had to be turned in this week. Or, was done this week.

My two active (LOL) SDP group members and I
*Senior Design Project (SDP) which is basically a test in form of a project to access if you have really learned anything in the four years in your program. I'm studying TV/ Film as some of you may know and my SDP was to produce a thirty minute show featuring news, music, fashion, an interview with a personality and finally, the community expressions or thoughts.
Thankfully I didn't have to do this alone! We were paired in groups and I worked with 4 others (2 if you really count the people that WORKED) to produce an amazing show which was finally presented to the Communications and Multimedia (CMD) faculty yesterday afternoon. IT WENT GREAT! :D

*A thirty page script (Act One only) of a story I created and developed myself. This was for my Scriptwriting class. I actually really enjoyed this so it wasn't so much work but it was still pretty tasking and it kept me busy.

*A short dramatic movie that I had to shoot, direct and edit. Final project for Film Directing class. Started working on that late and it didn't pay. I will NEVER wait till the last minute again to get my work done. NEVER!!! Also had a take home exam in this course that I turned in this past week.

*Two written exams; INF and SBE. SBE was not cool, INF was super!

Now you get the "week of terror" drift. It didn't help that I was also having boyfriend troubles upon all the work. Thank gosh that's sorted now though :)

This past week, I haven't slept decently. When it all ended yesterday, I felt like I should just pass out flat and sleep for a 100 years like Sleeping Beauty did but then, I'd miss a lot plus I am quite the restless type so I probably couldn't pull that off. I am SOOOO exhausted right now and yet, I can't help but stay awake, watching movies and now, blogging.

Then again, it could just be because my room is really uncomfortable that I can't sleep. Damn the man who was supposed to come fix this AC.

Spring 2011 is over. FINALLY! Like Michael said on the bus today, "this semester did not have head or tail". LOL. I won't put it in those words but his point, which is the oddity of this semester, is one I definitely agree with. I don't think there is a soul happier than mine about the end of this semester!
Next up is summer school starting on Monday. Wish I could have a proper break between this semester and summer school; go home or something but it's all good! I'm a survivor.
Graduation in 8 days! At last, I put on that gown and walk proudly. Four years, especially in a school like mine, in a town like Yola...it is not beans. Not at all.

Peace and love people. Pray for me to get some sleep! Xxx

Break from editing in the lab to pose for the camera!
During the SDP presentations.

GOD IS GOOD!!!!

April 27th. God is good people. He is really good. This dreadful month ends in three days, this useless semester ends in ten days, my one year anniversary with Colin is in eleven days and I finally can breathe cause most of the semester's work is wrapping up.

Shall I say it again? God is so so GOOD.

I nearly got hit with Malaria. Monday was horrible. I felt so sick and sad and small and I really wanted my mummy but my boo boo was there, taking care of me and making me feel less miserable than I could have felt. He took me to the clinic yesterday and though I got an obscene amount of meds to take, I am now feeling better.

I submitted my Business Plan today. FINALLY! It feels so good to know that I am done with basically all my courses for the semester. Today was the last class for three courses. SBE, INF and CMD 443, Film Directing, my official favorite course in the four years I have been here. Yes people, this decides it. After conquering the world as an actress and singer, I will settle into the film making business, specifically as a director. Still, feel free to call me up before then to direct your movies. I do not mean to blow my own trumpet but I am good. Really good.

OMG, I just ranted away. Sorry about that.

Exams are next week but exams don't break me. They never have. I work for my grade during the course of the semester, not during exam week. And I am pretty confident that I have done some good work this semester. I for see As and Bs. Maybe a C in SBE but we reject it in Jesus' name, Amen!!!

Summer school starts next week and I was feeling like crap about it but I don't know what has come over me today; I feel like it's gonna be good. How bad can it be seriously? Two courses, five weeks, my boyfriend is here, and after it I am done with college. DONE! Doesn't sound so bad to me. Plus Bee might be coming! That would be the bestest :D

I am finally changing my hair tomorrow and those who know me well know that is a good thing. I love "change hair day". I just hope she gets it right; I'm trying out a new stylist cause I am too cheap to go all the way into town plus I am still kinda freaked out by the curfews and all. LOL. I don't leave this school unless I absolutely have to!

So yeah, this is one of them update posts. There is no message, no funny story, no big thing that has happened. I am just in a good mood and I felt the need to update those who care.

I love you my readers! Even if you never comment on the posts. At least you read. Xxx

Spring Break, the Career Fair and all of that other BS!

This post is an UPDATE. A friend of mine once said my blog is a good way to know what's going on with me. Yelz, this is true. And now I am gonna tell you all about Spring Break 2011.

Spring Break has been cool and maddening all at the same time. On Friday when it started, I spent the earlier part of the day on set (it is soooo cool to say that. Can't wait to start doing my own movies and shows!) shooting for an important project that will eventually decide if I have learned anything in college! I spent the rest of Friday with Cynthia and we did what we do best. LOL. I was quite mad at AUN that day and if not for her, I would have bombed the premises so AUN community, go and say thank you to Cynthia Lawrence okay? Okay!

Saturday was the worst day of this Spring Break for sure. Or one of the worst. Road trip to Abuja without Cynthia! On my period! I felt cursed that day for real. Couldn't even snag my brandy for the cramps and the bus driver (and his music!) were just the worst. By the time we got to Jos, I was ready to check if the bus was automatic and if it were, I would have beat up the driver, kicked him out and driven the bus the rest of the trip. Jos to Abuja is a drive I am sure I can handle! LOL. But really though, PMS and that bus driver...it wasn't good AT ALL.
Me and Cynthia D on the bus to Abj. Do I look as crap as I feel?

When we finally got to Abuja, I was like "bleh". And Colin came to pick me up from the park. He and I had been fighting since Thursday and I wasn't ready to stop! We need a good fight every once in a while. That is apparently our "sparkle" as Carrie wanted from Bigg in SATC2. I just love that movie. Doesn't matter how many times I see it...wow, drifting off. So back to Saturday. I don't want to say more about it really. I went home, saw the fam, PMS kept punching me in the stomach... it was just a shoot-me-now day.

Sunday was aight. We didn't go to church and that was all I needed cause my PMS and cramps weren't any better on Sunday. Bed and a hot water bottle. Btw, like I said on Twitter, a big shout out to the makers of hot water bottles. You do care about women and what we go through. Thanks a million! Kisses and hugs to you wherever you are! And if you are dead, I know you made it to heaven for that wonderful invention.

Monday was the best day of my Spring Break so far. In the morning, went looking for this short annoying man we had an interview with and he posted us till evening. So Bella and I decided to use the day to CHILL. We met up with Sabo and Colin, hung out with them for a bit, went home for lunch and came out again to go swimming with Colin. I love swimming! And I love swimming with Colin. My sexiness torments him and it is oh too fun to watch! When I took off my shawl thingy that was covering me and unveiled my sexy bod in my sexy swimsuit, Bee says she actually heard him heave a sigh. Bear in mind that we were still fighting. LOL. Fun huh? Anyways at some point during swimming, we made up of course. Who wants to fight with a girl that looks like me in a swimsuit? Who??? Please I would like to know. Well other girls obviously -_-
After a bit more swimming, Baileys on the rocks and the hottest chicken wings I have ever eaten in my life, we left and Colin dropped us off at the salon to get pretty. Me and Bee are such divas *eyelashes BBM smiley* After getting our hair done, we had to go back to check on the little man we had an interview with...and he still didn't show. There are a series of bad words I would like to use on him but this is the internet and family reads this blog so...yeah.

P.s It was so careless of me but I don't have any pictures from this day! Not on my phone, not on my camera, not on Kimmy. Shame on me.

Alright alright. I can't get to the end. I am bored talking about the past. Or shall I breeze through instead of going into each day with such detail? Na na. Tuesday needs detail. Even Wednesday. Career fair...not so much detail needed there but well, it wouldn't hurt. I know some of you have stopped reading already. "Geez Tara talks tooo much!" *closing my blog* Well that is really your business.

I will finish this post eventually. It will be called "Spring Break, the Career Fair and all of that other BS (Part 2)". Go figure :|

All Woman Now

I was working on a script for my Film Directing class and I don't know why it hit me at that exact moment, but that's when it hit. It hit that by June this year, I will hold a Bachelor's degree in Communications and Multimedia. It hit that by that time, collecting an allowance from my dad would be lame. It hit that childhood is now behind and it's time to think of myself as an adult that can and should stand on her own two feet.

The other day, my sister asked me about my plans after graduation. I had no idea. I still have no idea actually and the realization that I still haven't made up my mind about something as simple as grad school or NYSC scared me to death. Where am I going? What are my plans for the future? Where do I see myself in the next ten years? It is no longer enough to just ask myself these questions; I have to set the ball in motion to answer them for myself. It's time to finally "woman-up" and take charge of my life and steer it in the direction I see it going.

Taking charge won't happen overnight. It'll be a gradual process and sometimes, I may slip up and act like a child (With my mum around not wanting me to grow up too fast, I really won't grow up too fast! LOL) but I must start now to recognize that adulthood is what comes next and the ways I had as a child should be deserted for new and matured approaches to life.

*I put God first. He is the author and finisher of our destinies and when you let Him, he will lead you in the right path.
*I've made my Twitter name something more sophisticated and grown up but it's not boring (at least not to me!).
*I've learned to control my temper. Walk away from a fight or a confrontation. There is always a way for two people to resolve an issue peacefully.
*I'm starting to talk to people that could play key roles in my future dreams and aspirations.

So you see, it's a start! Rome wasn't built in a day so I won't become the woman I want to be overnight. Still, the ball has been set rolling. From now, it's all WOMAN. x

Sliding Into the 20s Club

So from my last post (if you're a true reader of this blog!) you probably already know that last week Tuesday (Feb 1) was my 20th birthday. It was an amazing day, with amazing photos, that I have decided to share with you.

The day started off with an argument with Colin. I think he has a thing for drama on special days (his birthday, Christmas...thankfully he freed New Years!) but I refused to let my day be ruined by anything. Even easier when I have my ball of fun and energy around me. Cynthia gave the minute I turned 20 so much hype with a video and hugs and kisses. She was the first person I spoke to in my 20s. Nice start :)

After that, C and I went to bed. We had a lot to drink night before and the fact that we were still standing was actually amazing! Before bed, Mum called and I already got texts coming in and people on Twitter and Facebook showing love. It's amazing how much love you feel on your birthday. In the morning, we kicked off nice with music in the room (they let my playlist run! That never happens cause my songs are somewhat...odd to others). I also took my first picture as a 20 yr old and damn this age looks good on me!

My birthday was a hot day! And luckily for me, I had no classes that day (AUN's gift) so I really spent most of the day indoors. Udoka dropped by and oh well, that resulted in a makeup session and lots of pictures and videos. The videos...oh wow. You want to see but I don't want you to! Highly crazy and therefore highly personal :P Here's a picture though (L-R Udoka, Cynthia and me).
After the fun time indoors, evening finally came. That's when Cynthia and I headed out to pick up the cake and buy drinks for the evening. The plan was to go out to dinner with my girls in this cute restaurant we saw in town, and then after dinner, drink up with the boys. We were already very behind schedule though so by the time everyone would have been ready, the restaurant would have closed. Change of plans and the new plan was Fire Service. Quite yucky a place especially after the cute restaurant but the new me is determined not to let what I can't change affect me. That also goes for Colin's attitude which was less than pleasant and which I also chose to ignore! He had apologized earlier in the day but I guess his ego was still bruised. Men. SMH.

I didn't have a lot of people come out for my birthday cause I didn't want a lot of people. I should be a people-person with the career I'm headed into but I find myself running away from people these days. I normally like to either be alone or be with Cynthia or Colin as far as AUN goes. Of course I wasn't going to spend my day with only them. So I had a few people come too. Stephanie (Cynthia's sister), Medinat, Kami, Ope, Cynthia and I made the girls. And the guys were Colin, Deji, Tesan, Martin, Ike and Gozie. My birthday crowd was actually a perfect one.

The girls definitely looked too dressed up for Fire Service but we did not send! if there is anything me and my girls do right, it's looking fabulous no matter what and ESPECIALLY for fabulous occasions.
At fire service, we CHILLED. Drinks, fish, laughs and soooo many pictures. When the alcohol was working, even Colin loosened up and started to enjoy himself. Good for him cause I was just gonna keep ignoring him if he remained in a bad mood! When it was time to cut the cake, I cut it with Cynthia and nobody enjoyed that cake more than she did! Now I know where I'm getting her birthday cake in the next two months!

After cake, to finish the last bottle, Colin started up the Concentration Game. That made me happy. And it was fun. When you slip, you drink. Think I slipped twice. Stephanie slipped a lot! Cynthia and Colin never slipped. Wonder how...

After the game and the emptying of the bottle, we were all ready to go back to school. In ONE car. Sheesh!
